Yesterday was the church’s annual celebration. I found out today that this is the first time they have done it this way. Previously, it was a dinner banquet.
This time, it was in two parts: #1 was during the service where Jamie preached on remembering what God has done and tied it into things to celebrate from this past year. There was a cool slide show and video and Bibles given to 4th graders and a missions commissioning and communion… lots of stuff going on!
Afterwards, everyone came back at 12:30 for the outdoor celebration. There was a BBQ/potluck lunch and plenty of food for everyone.
There were a couple tents put up outside for eating, and the multi-purpose room had round tables set up for eating as well.
There were bounce houses for the younger kids.
And a small petting zoo. The chicks were a big hit!
But the biggest hit of all was the dunk tank, where all the pastors (except me) had a turn. I was glad not to have been one of the people in there, as they poured 40 pounds of ice in when the senior pastor was sitting there. It was COLD!! Anyway, it would not have been very much fun for people as I am pretty boring – the guys really did a good job hamming it up and making it fun for everyone!
It is a bit odd for me now to actually participate in an event and not be the one running it — but I’m not complaining! 🙂 Deanna and all who were involved in putting it together did a great job. People had a good time and it was a great way to celebrate together in the life of the church and God’s goodness!
