Yesterday our family went to watch our daughter perform at the Mondavi Center. All the Davis school orchestras were there and it was utterly impressive!
It was my second time at Mondavi Center and we got there really early so I spent some time photographing the facility.
Daniel and I hung out in the lobby a while reading. It is rare for my son and me to have a picture together!
Then the show began. It was 3 hours! (Including intermission.) It started with elementary orchestras (quite amazing for that age. When I played the violin and was in orchestra at that age, it wasn’t HALF as good!). Then we heard the junior high intermediate orchestra and then the junior high advanced orchestra (where my daughter plays). I can’t believe she has only been playing the violin 2.5 years! Just goes to show what a difference having a passion, gift, and hard practice makes! (I hated playing violin. I played over 2 years and I got only as far as she got in the first 6 months!)
I was quite impressed at the quality of the orchestra! These kids were quite serious in their performance.
After the intermission was the Senior High Chamber Orchestra, and then the Symphony. The Symphony ended with a 15-year-old girl playing a piano concerto. It was so amazing. It was professional level. I was so blown away. They got a standing ovation!
And then we were all hungry (missed lunch) went home and cooked dinner and had a fun evening with friends (who went home around midnight…nice to know other night owls!). A full and very very good day filled with many blessings!
