    Barreling Easter, bulging carts

These past few weeks have been craziness!

After getting back from our weekend away, I was slammed with all sorts of projects. Easter was a barreling down the tracks!

First there was a stage design (more on that later). Though the result turned out well, nothing ever goes the way you plan… 🙂

Then there were Easter videos to edit and shoot. We did a UCCNN one, this time with new talent, who turned out to be awesome! First time I used a shotgun mic. Love it!

I shot a testimony video of the story of three men’s faith journeys. Very interesting how the stories intersected and deviated from each other as they were interwoven together! It was also challenging editing because we had background noise of people laughing, doors slamming, etc. There was even a point the wife talked over the husband. I had to slice out specific sounds and replace it with ambient sound and then you couldn’t really hear the edit once music was laid over. But the stories were awesome. One person is battling cancer and to hear his faith is ultra inspiring!

We also did a special element where Winfred read Scripture, Gigi did signing, and we had modern-day fishing photos that matched the text.

I also made a sound track of sound effects like water lapping, fire crackling, etc. First time I used Garage Band. Glad I have an experienced daughter who could help me long-distance (we did a lot of texting!). There were like 3 different small projects. This is one.

That same day we launched Breakaway, our summer day camp for 475 kids. Lots of prep in advance, planning meetings, registration forms, promotional materials, etc. etc. This time we also put some attention into how our station looked. This is not a great photo but gives an idea…

The response was amazing! Our preschool area sold out in two days!

Then, five days later, our retreat started! The week was a lot of prep, including Michelle, Ellie, Glen and I going to Costco. We ended up with 7 carts of food and supplies. (Should have done a better job spreading out the carts so it is obvious how much stuff we got.)

Once all the people saw us in line, they quickly moved to other lines. Our receipt was super long. The checker said we got the record purchase for the day, and in fact, for his whole history of working at Costco! But I guess this is what you need when you feed almost 200 people for a weekend.

The next day was packing up stuff at church and heading up to the retreat… where we hit all sorts of unexpected challenges… speaker had a stroke so dropped out, snow hit us so people got stuck, and I had less than 24 hours to prepare a sermon and preach for Sunday, on top of directing the retreat. Yes, not at all what was planned. But God was good and the weekend was totally amazing! Too much to tell her… deserves another post.

However, since I got home I have sure slept well quality-wise! (Not so much quantity-wise, but hey, I’ll take quality!) 🙂
