One of the video games Daniel has been playing lately is called Uncharted. It’s fun to watch him because it’s like a movie. There’s a story line and then puzzles and fighting and the animation is amazing.
What is also immensely amusing is hearing the running commentary that accompanies the game.
We had a wonderfully relaxing Thanksgiving today, mostly staying home and resting and hanging out together. Timmy was over for a while and then he went home for dinner.
I rested and relaxed and relieved stress by decluttering. I went through a file cabinet of old manuals and started tossing things. One of the things I came across was carbon paper from a receipt way back in 1988. I showed Megan the carbon paper. Then we had a conversation.
Tonight Daniel and his friend Timmy had to go to a tech meeting that was a dessert potluck. Daniel decided to bake a pumpkin-carrot cake.
Timmy comes and stays at our house and has been “adopted” into our family as our third child. Daniel and Timmy are almost like brothers. Timmy is also a great sport in helping Daniel out. So Daniel recruited Timmy to be his “sous-chef.”
My son is a big picture person. He rarely notices details. Yesterday he pulled out his binder of schoolwork.
I was appalled.
Ensuing conversation:
I have spent the last 3 days trying to transfer files from one computer to another. Because I didn’t have the right firewire cable, I used ethernet.
Big mistake.
Total time: 54 hours+.
And at the last hour, my computer crashed.
Megan is really into Japanese culture and likes to draw manga (Japenese cartoons). One style of cartoon drawing is called Chibi, which is a style where characters look short and cute.
Since Albert has always liked drawing cartoons, he decided to add a little interested to his math and physics classes. He made a few extra credit questions and learned how to draw chibi characters.
And since he’s an engineer, of course he had to use an appropriate example.
Yesterday Megan was a little bit anxious about her upcoming seating auditions today. (Where musicians in the symphony audition to see what rank they are in, which determines which chair they sit in.) So she put a post on Facebook… that ended up with 82 replies!
It is really hard to believe that Daniel is a senior and is applying for college next year. My non-administrative, non-detail-oriented son is now needing to fill out forms and write paragraphs about himself. Tonight he started filling out an application for William Jessup, the university where my husband works.
It did not quite go as I expected.
