There are days that you feel that even though you try, things just don’t go the way they plan. And then later you can look back and laugh at the mistakes.
That was my day today… my third Sunday at work and the first Sunday where I performed the duties of worship hosting, announcements and serving communion.
Worship hosting is when you do the verbal call to worship… except someone forgot and almost started another element of the service.
The first two services, I forgot to announce parts of my announements. It finally came together at the end – 3rd service.
I didn’t know how to turn on the handheld mic, so the pastor came up and turned it on for me.
I didn’t know how to serve communion, so I just watched everyone else.
2nd service the plan was for me to slip out to visit a Christian Education class briefly and then return to do communion. Except I mis-timed it and communion started before I returned… so I just stood in the back of the room and watched! Oops.
And then 3rd service I was supposed to serve the pastor but I forgot and just walked off the stage. Oops again.
Well, chalk it up to being new. Boy am I glad I work with a bunch of very gracious and forgiving people!!! They really tried their best to explain it to me but unfortunately I have a poor memory and I think it all fell between my brain cell cracks and disappeared.
However, my biggest fear was I would drop the plate of bread and cup of juice since I had bandaids on my fingers… but I didn’t! However, some people did drop their bread into the juice so there were a few cubes of bread floating around in the juice, which was kind of interesting watching them bob up and down every time someone dipped another piece of bread in.
But through it all I just prayed, God, you be glorified in this! (Because I’m totally messing things up!)
Isn’t it good we serve a loving and gracious God that somehow delights in little people like me serving him, mistakes and all!
