Breakaway is over! A look back… setup

Well I have been a bit remiss lately in posting on my blog. This has been due to being in Breakaway (VBS/Summer Day Camp) mode this past week!

I flew back from Washington DC Saturday night, getting home past 11. Our family sat around and had a late night snack and enjoyed being together in what felt like forever! I think I went to sleep at like 2 in the morning.

After about 4 hours of sleep, it was time to get up and head to church for the start of the Breakaway prep. We started with volunteer and child early check-in. This was the first time we did it and Monday check-in was much smoother as a result! It was also really nice because Albert joined us… and that always makes it so much more fun!

Right after church, it was time to start setting up. Unfortunately I didn’t have a whole lot of time to go around taking pictures, so I assigned my daughter Megan. She did a pretty good job!

People painted sets…

Assembled dividers for small groups…

Did construction…

Cut out decorations…

Constructed and painted rock walls…

And hung bandanas. Here’s Glen, the director, being his usual goofy self. I don’t know what he was doing. Posing like a Spanish dancer, perhaps? Like that goes with a Western theme somehow…? On the bottom left corner is Patricia, our amazing decor coordinator. She and the crew worked so hard!

Hmmm… since my daughter took the photos, I don’t know how she pulled this one off… she is a more versatile photographer than I thought! (In fact, she managed to shoot both RAW and JPG at the same time with my camera. I didn’t even know my camera could do that! Sure will save me a lot of time now to do both simultaneously.)

Even the kids helped!

There are a lot more pictures but I’ll post more on, where I’ll put up a post about decor.

People worked through the afternoon and then one of the people helping out so graciously invited us over to her house for dinner! I was so grateful. She whipped up an amazing meal for us all.

Then we headed back to church. Some teenagers stayed at church until like 2:30 in the morning stuffing nametags into bins. I had a ton to do but managed to get one hour of sleep. Glen didn’t get any sleep at all.

And then it was Monday! Start of Breakaway!

But Sunday was awesome. I was so blessed and grateful by all the people who served. They all had such great attitudes and heart and it was so much fun working together too. It’s experiences like this that remind me how awesome it is to be part of the body of Christ, with everyone using their gifts and serving where needed!
