Oasis Prime Time

Oasis is our Friday morning women’s Bible study. Many women have mentioned that they would love to go to Oasis in the morning, but. have work or schedule conflicts. So, last night Oasis had a Prime Time event welcoming women who are not usually able to attend!

Of course, the food was totally amazing.

They did a very nice job decorating the table with a fall feel. Yum, that food looks good!

Carol started off by leading us in an icebreaker.

We had to stand on either side of the line and she would divide us like, “Those who have lived in Davis less than 5 years and those who have lived in Davis more than 5 years.”

It was fun to see who had done what.

Sometimes people would stand on the line, or here was a mother/daughter combo that ended up on either side.

Then we had an activity where we cut out pictures from magazines of things we were thankful for.

Lots of snipping going on… It was kind of hard finding stuff that fit what I was thinking. I noticed most women’s magazines don’t have things like electronics and computers, cameras, drums, or keyboards. It was pretty easy to bypass all the pages on makeup, clothes, shoes and gardening. I guess it’s no surprise that I don’t subscribe to Oprah’s magazine but I do subscribe to Popular Science. I’m a geek, what can I say.

However, it was still fun to reflect on the many other things I am thankful for! And people came up with all sorts of great ideas as they were going through the magazines.

Then we got to tell the groups what the collages all meant.

I loved all the creativity and ideas.

Everyone laughed when they saw mine. Obviously my collage is a reflection of my personality. All boxes and squares. (Yes, a picture of an iPad! Someone else found that one for me. Other things I’m thankful for: family, photography, being able to eat more carbs now, and the beauty that God has made around us. There’s a ton more but that’s all I had time for.)

Carol and Karen led us in worship.

I thought it was interesting that one of the songs was “I am the vine,” which is the sermon topic I’m preaching on in a few weeks. I had spent the morning at Starbucks buried in the text, studying it!

Ann, the Oasis Director, gave a devotional on giving thanks in all circumstances. Excellent reminder as we head into the Thanksgiving season!

The evening closed with an amazing video of the song “Creation Calls” (I love that song!) with clips from Planet Earth. The cinematography is totally amazing — so much stuff I have never seen before and can’t even imagine how they filmed it. But even more amazing was the reminder of the awesomeness of God and so many blessings that we have to be thankful for!
