A very happy birthday

My birthday has been mixed over the years. Last year I had to work because we had Easter services. This year I worked all day because it was Sunday. But it was a totally awesome day!

I had to get up early to go to church, but once I got there, there was a surprise!

I have been known to raid the donut box at work. Glen knew I loved donuts so he set one aside for me.

Speaking of Glen, he also wore a special costume today. He sometimes dresses up in costumes for the kids, so today he was “Princess Humility.” Except the only problem was he picked some costumes that were slightly on the small side for him.

That’s supposed to be a cape. For a two year old.

Anyway, we all had good laughs and enjoyed the cake he brought at a meeting we had during lunch. It was red velvet cake — my favorite!

My kids even gave me a birthday present. Yesterday Megan mentioned something about a birthday present and I said, “All I want for my birthday is for your rooms to be clean.”

Today when I came home from work, they had both cleaned their rooms! This was no mean feat — they were National Disaster Areas. Wow! Very cool.

However, the credit goes to Albert, who reminded them. 🙂

I love my family!

Back to church again after being home for an hour. Albert, Megan and I were on the worship team in the evening, and then we jetted out and went all the way to Rancho Cordova to try out a Korean BBQ restaurant. Oddly, it is called Oz. (I just heard today that the author of Wizard of Oz got the name Oz because the file cabinet had a label for the letters O through Z. No idea if it’s true.)

Daniel had never gone out to Korean BBQ, and this was the first time at this restaurant for all of us. I wanted to try something new for my birthday and in our family the birthday person gets to pick where to go for dinner.

The meat was sooooo good!

And afterwards they surprised me with a hat, free dessert, and a very loud and obnoxious birthday song, complete with maracas.

And I got to spin the birthday wheel!

And I even won a free lunch! Wow!!!!

Afterwards, we came home and Albert, Megan and I watched a video of Tangled. I love that movie!

And it really meant a lot to me that many people on Facebook sent me happy birthday wishes!

Today the sermon at church was on Job and suffering. I know I have faced those seasons of difficulty and will face them again, but right now I am filled with nothing but thankfulness for God’s goodness.
