iCare service day

On May 5th, my church joined the churches of Davis in a community service day that including Davis, Woodland, Winters, Dixon, and Knights Landing.

It was a pretty amazing event. 39 different projects, over 736 people, and I’m not sure how many churches but there were quite a number.

I went around different sites documenting the event with photos. Here are some of my favorite.

This event was for people of all ages. I like this picture of the two girls carrying the big bucket! Rule of thirds is definitely in use in this picture!

This picture of the girl shoveling was at a slight angle, giving a sense of motion. I also like how she happened to be smiling.

There were a ton of people at Davis High School pulling weeds. The weeds sure look beautiful in this picture too! The woman in the front is in focus but the rest of the picture is more fuzzy with the depth of field.

Who is this? None other than my sister Corrie… pregnant and working hard, no less! She was also suffering from terrible allergies. What a trooper!

I really like this photo because of the intent gaze of the child.

This picture captures the energy and motion of the man shoveling the bark.

There was lots of greenery around, as can be seen in this picture. It actually looks like this gal is serving in an idyllic paradise, not a school yard!

People were working incredibly hard! What a great picture of unity and service and showing God’s love through taking care of our communities!

Hats off to all those who worked hard to put these opportunities together too!

I really enjoy studying your pictures and how you frame your subjects. How much did you do in post-processing (cropping, touching up) with these particular photos?

It is very helpful to see and hear about the little things you do to make a good image.

    Thanks for sharing!

I did a little tweaking on exposure, but not much, and a little cropping sometimes. But most of the photos are pretty close to how they were taken….
